Sizes, heights and car cup holders

Ounces tell you how much it holds. Width at the base tells you whether it goes in the car. We publish both where we have them.

What an ounce is, in practice

A 14 oz mug holds a generous cup of coffee with room for the lid. A 20 oz tumbler is a commute and a meeting. A 22 oz bottle is a gym session or a short walk. A 30 oz straw tumbler is an afternoon of iced drinks in a single fill, and it is also the one that will not fit a narrow cup holder.

Heights and widths are medians of what we publish per piece, and cup-holder fit is what we state, not what we assume.

The cup holder, measured

Cup holders vary by car, and we do not publish a figure for them. Our 20 oz travel tumblers taper toward the base, and we state the fit on 31 pieces from what we have tried, not from a standard. A mug with a handle fits by its base but the handle has to clear the console, and a 30 oz straw tumbler is wider than most holders at the top even when the base fits. If the holder matters to you, choose from the 20 oz department.

Sets and pairs

16 of our 64 pieces are sets of two or four. The capacity in the name is per cup. The sets live in their own department, with the price per cup shown beside the price.
